BioWare has announced that a “redesigned” version of its hit Xbox RPG Mass Effect will be coming to the PC in May.

The PC version of the game has been updated to include controls optimized specifically for the PC, high-resolution textures, characters and environments, fully customizable controls, a new inventory screen interface and functionality that will simplify the process of equipping and modifying weapons and armor, a new and more “action-focused” option to allow players to assign biotics and skills to hot keys, and more.

EA has struck an agreement with Microsoft to handle future publishing for Mass Effect,” said EA Games President Frank Gibeau. “We are looking forward to releasing Mass Effect on the PC this spring and brand new titles in the future.”

Ray Muzyka, general manager at BioWare, added, “Mass Effect serves as a powerful example of videogames as an art form, delivering new levels of emotional intensity, realistic characters and a gripping storyline – all set in a compelling new universe.”

Mass Effect tells the story of Commander Shepard and the crew of the spaceship Normandy as they explore a vast in-game universe and interact with various alien races in a deep and engrossing story. Released in November 2007 for the Xbox, the game received widespread acclaim, garnering more than 70 awards and achieving a Metacritic score of 91. BioWare also recently announced new downloadable content for the Xbox version of the game.
