How many games ask you to control two characters at once – with only one controller?
Twisted Pixel’s XBLA puzzle platformer ‘Splosion Man was an unexpected success in 2009. While the indie developer is working on Kinect shooter The Gunstringer, it’s also working on a ‘Splosion Man follow-up – called Ms. ‘Splosion Man, in the vein of Namco’s omnivorous yellow puck.
Presumably Ms. ‘Splosion Man has a normal mode like the original, but it also has an additional type of gameplay called “2 Girls 1 Controller,” and if you don’t get the reference then I’m certainly not about to explain it here.
The mode is exactly what it sounds like: One player must control two Ms. ‘Splosion Mans (‘Splosion Men?) on one controller. The left thumbstick and left shoulder bumper control the movement and ‘sploding of one; the right thumbstick and right shoulder bumper control the movement and ‘sploding of the other. Presumably, if either one dies it’s back to the checkpoint.
Frankly speaking, this looks positively brutal. I could barely control one ‘Splosion Man in the original – I don’t think I could ever handle controlling two at once.
There will be more information on the game in the June issue of Game Informer.
