Memphis Man Busted For Theft Of Unreleased Games

The best DRM schemes in the world wouldn’t touch this one: A Technicolor employee has been charged with theft after being arrested with over 900 stolen Xbox discs and DVDs.

Rodney Gray, who will presumably soon be an ex-employee of Technicolor, was being observed by police when he left his room at the InTown Suites in Memphis, Tennessee, with a red bag. After being stopped for numerous outstanding traffic violations, the officers discovered 31 games in the bag, and upon returning to his room discovered several more games and movies. Included among them were almost 100 copies of Gears of War 2 and Fable 2, neither of which have been released.

Gray told police he works at Technicolor, a packaging, warehousing, distribution and production company in Memphis, and confessed that he took the games from the company’s facilities in order to sell them. Police recovered 97 copies of the games, along with 807 DVDs, several of which are also not yet publicly available and have a combined value estimated at over $100,000. He has been charged with theft over $60,000, as well as driving with a suspended license, although that’s probably the least of his concerns right now.

Another man is also being investigated for selling games stolen from Technicolor, according to a police report, but he has not yet been charged.
