Pokémon: Mewtwo Strikes Back — Evolution is a CGI remake of Pokémon: The First Movie: Mewtwo Strikes Back, and it is coming to Netflix next month. The film, which was first released for Japan in July of last year, will make its way to U.S. Netflix subscribers on Feb. 27.
Netflix’s announcement also came with the first English trailer, which you can watch below.
There are not many differences between the remake and the 1998 original besides, obviously, the art style. Fans of the classic animated series may notice though that the voice acting has also been completely redone. Instead of taking the nostalgic route, Mewtwo Strikes Back — Evolution actually utilizes the cast that currently plays the characters in the show; Ash is played by Sarah Natochenny, Brock by Bill Rogers, and Misty by Michele Knotz.
Just as with the 1998 movie, Mewtwo Strikes Back — Evolution follows Ash, Misty, and Brock as they encounter the legendary Pokémon experiment, Mewtwo. After escaping from the lab he was created in, Mewtwo begins his plot for revenge.
If you are unfamiliar, the 1998 original is a favorite in the Pokémon community, with many saying the film still has some really powerful tear-jerking moments to this day.
