Minecraft Unseats COD as Most Played Game Over Xbox Live

Minecraft is the first Xbox Live Arcade game to top all online activity.

In case you hadn’t heard, a lot of people like to play Minecraft of an evening. Once a PC gaming independent darling, the building simulator that sprung from the mind of Notch has also found a large following on a console as an Xbox Live Arcade game. Even though the code on Xbox Live is older than the PC version – build 1.8.2 as of last week’s update – the convenience of playing Minecraft from your couch, as well as the ability to play cooperatively both online and with split-screen, has enchanted players. In Larry Hryb’s weekly update on Xbox Live statistics, Minecraft topped the list for unique users’ online activity over Xbox Live, beating out AAA titles like Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3, FIFA 13, Black Ops and Borderlands 2.

To our knowledge, last week’s list marks the first time an Xbox Live Arcade game took the number one spot for all online activity. Not only that, but Minecraft took the top spot in Live Arcade sales last week too, beating out the popular new Walking Dead episode from Telltale.
