The newest game in the Call of Duty series wants to wow you with its story.
Glen Schofield, one of the founders of Modern Warfare 3 co-developer Sledgehammer Games, says that while the exact length depends on the player, the single player campaign for MW3 feels longer than the one created for MW2. That’s no bad thing either: Modern Warfare 2 was widely criticized for the short length of its single player portion.
Schofield said that Sledgehammer and Infinity Ward had finished the single player campaign months ago, and were now polishing it to a mirror shine, adding that one of the goals with Modern Warfare 3 was for players to come away praising the story as well as the spectacle. He also shared one of his favorite parts of the single player campaign, a quite exciting sounding moment in Berlin where a building is collapsing around the player in real time, and then the player has to enter the downed structure while it’s still creaking and groaning.
As someone who values stories pretty highly, I’m hoping that Schofield and the rest of the Modern Warfare 3 team make good on their promise of a memorable single player game. Of course, from a sales point of view, it probably won’t really matter all that much as long as the multiplayer is good.
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 comes out for PC, PS3, Wii, and Xbox 360 on November 8th.
