Sony Pictures’ Monster Hunter movie adaptation has been given a first very short teaser trailer. The big-screen version of Capcom’s video game hit looks like it might share less in common with its source material than you might expect, but it does offer a look at series regular Black Diablos. Watch the quick teaser footage in the video below.
Sony provided a summary for Monster Hunter, which you can see below:
Behind our world, there is another: a world of dangerous and powerful monsters that rule their domain with deadly ferocity. When an unexpected sandstorm transports Captain Artemis (Milla Jovovich) and her unit (TI Harris, Meagan Good, Diego Boneta) to a new world, the soldiers are shocked to discover that this hostile and unknown environment is home to enormous and terrifying monsters immune to their firepower. In their desperate battle for survival, the unit encounters the mysterious Hunter (Tony Jaa), whose unique skills allow him to stay one step ahead of the powerful creatures. As Artemis and Hunter slowly build trust, she discovers that he is part of a team led by the Admiral (Ron Perlman). Facing a danger so great it could threaten to destroy their world, the brave warriors combine their unique abilities to band together for the ultimate showdown.
We first learned about Capcom’s plans to create a Monster Hunter film in October of 2018, when the publisher also revealed that it would be making a Mega Man movie. Monster Hunter is being directed by Paul W.S. Anderson, who also directed Capcom’s Resident Evil film adaptations, and features Milla Jovovich and Tony Jaa. Back in February, long before today’s Black Diablos teaser, we got images of both actors suited up in Monster Hunter gear.
In more Monster Hunter news, Capcom recently revealed that the series is getting two new video game entries in Monster Hunter Rise and Monster Hunter Stories 2: Wings of Ruin. Both titles are coming to Nintendo Switch in 2021.
