We’re about to dive into the darker side of the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU)… or at least a hero who seems to come out at night time a whole lot more. The first trailer for Moon Knight, Disney+’s next MCU show, landed tonight during the NFL playoff game, and it definitely seems like we’ll be heading for a darker tale than in the rest of the MCU to date. The trailer for Moon Knight also reveals a release date of March 30, 2022.
We’ve seen teases of the series already, but this is our first good look at how the MCU will pull the titular hero in. Oscar Issac’s Marc Spector / Moon Knight will be a complex character dealing with multiple personalities while probably fighting a battle amongst ancient Egyptian gods, as Moon Knight receives his powers from Egyptian god Khonshu in the comics. Interestingly, the Moon Knight trailer shows very little of the hero (except him bludgeoning someone on the floor) and a lot of “Steven” going crazy.
Moon Knight also stars Ethan Hawke as the show’s antagonist, with a rumored appearance by Emily VanCamp, who played Sharon Carter in the Captain America films. The series is created by Jeremy Slater and Egyptian director Mohamed Diab is directing four episodes, with Justin Benson and Aaron Moorhead dual-directing the other two.
This isn’t Disney’s only foray into the dark occult as Marvel begins rolling out movies and shows involving its more fantastical side, including the upcoming Blade and a Halloween special rumored to be focused on Werewolf by Night.
Moon Knight isn’t far away now on Disney+ with its March 30 release date.
