More Spider-Man MCU Movies Are Coming, Says Series Producer Amy Pascal

Looks like all the multiverse mayhem that’s about to hit the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) won’t be migrating Spider-Man out of it for future movies. In a recent interview with Fandango, Spider-Man producer and Sony executive Amy Pascal revealed that Spider-Man and Tom Holland are apparently not just returning for a fourth Spider-Man movie inside the MCU continuity, but that they are looking at a new trilogy of movies after Spider-Man: Now Way Home concludes.

“This is not the last movie that we are going to make with Marvel – [this is not] the last Spider-Man movie,” Pascal said. “We are getting ready to make the next Spider-Man movie with Tom Holland and Marvel. We’re thinking of this as three films, and now we’re going to go onto the next three. This is not the last of our MCU movies.”

This is kind of a big surprise as everything seemed to be setting up for Tom Holland’s Spider-Man to jump over into the Sony’s Spider-Man Universe that Sony runs, with villains from all the past Spider-Man films showing up in Spider-Man: No Way Home and Venom suddenly being dragged over into the MCU at the end of Venom: Let There Be Carnage. Sony owns the rights to the Spider-Man movies but began splitting profits with Disney in order to get the franchise back on track and into the MCU. It must think it can be more profitable if its biggest character is tied into the MCU rather than pulling him over to make its own films, which is just a crazy testament to how powerful the Marvel films are. It’s even crazier to think about considering the power move that Disney pulled on Sony after the release of Spider-Man: Far From Home, though Sony’s crumbling on its demands showed how much it needs the House of Mouse.

What does this mean for the future of Spider-Man in the MCU? We won’t really know for a while most likely. Will Holland help usher in the Fantastic Four since Spider-Man is so closely connected to them? Does this mean that Spidey villains will stay in their own little universe, or have Disney and Sony established a deal to bring those characters over as well? Sony has a slew of Spidey-adjacent films planned and is building up its own Sinister Six, so maybe it’s all coming to the MCU now?

That could be a stretch, as Pascal continued on to discuss the multiple Sony Spider efforts as different and later avoided answering if Holland would ever jump into Sony’s side of things.

“Well, there’s the Marvel Universe, which is one container and then there’s the Spider-Verse movies, which are different and then there’s the other universe where the Sony characters are in,” she said. “We all are very respectful of each other and work together and make sure that we’re only being additive.”
