Mortal Kombat creator Ed Boon confirmed that the upcoming Mortal Kombat 9 will return to the series’ tradition of featuring over-the-top M-rated violence.
Long-running fighting series Mortal Kombat took a Teen-rated turn for the slightly-less-bloody-than-usual with last year’s Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe, which dropped the series trademark decapitations and spine-rippings for seriously lame stuff like an arcade machine dropping from the sky to kill your opponent. C’mon, what is that?
Well Mortal Kombat k/creator Ed Boon has enough of that T-rated garbage. As work progresses on Mortal Kombat 9, the next Kombat game, Boon has revealed through his Twitter that things are getting a little bit krazy. “Motion capturing special moves & fatalities today…they are kind of sick!!” he said yesterday afternoon. “I hope we aren’t taking these too far,” he said hours later.
“People want an M-rated MK…dammit we will give them an M-rated MK,” Boon declared. That’s right, dammit. If the people want it, the people are going to get it. And hey, how about some really crazy stuff? If we’re going to get xtreme here, let’s go all the way, right? No? Apparently there’s a limit even for Mortal Kombat. “Yea….I don’t know where the line is to make MK an AO rated game,” Boon said. “But we definitely don’t want to kross it.”
Pressed for more details about Mortal Kombat 9, which has remained shrouded in mystery pretty much up until now, Boon would only reveal the subtitle of the game: “No the fatalities we are capturing…sorry, kapturing are for the next MK9: Attack of the Nuns: Get in the Habbit!!”
This is why I love Twitter.
