Publisher Playstack and developer Cold Symmetry have announced an August 18, 2021 release date for DLC expansion Mortal Shell: The Virtuous Cycle on PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X | S. This is a game-changing roguelike expansion to the original game. Additionally, Mortal Shell and The Virtuous Cycle will finally see a Steam and GOG release on this same date, marking the one-year anniversary since it came to Epic Games Store and consoles. To date, it’s already been wishlisted by more than 300,000 Steam users in anticipation of the launch. You can see today’s trailer below.
In brief, “The Virtuous Cycle reinvents your journey through Fallgrim and beyond as adversaries cycle and shuffle upon each death. Demanding and brutal as ever, now you can never be sure what lies ahead.” For a price of $7.99, Cold Symmetry and Playstack say that Mortal Shell: The Virtuous Cycle adds Hadern as the game’s fifth Shell type, allowing access to talents such as dagger mastery and an ability that allows the user to absorb punishment. Those who purchase the DLC can use the Shell type both in the expansion and the main campaign. The Virtuous Cycle also unlocks the appropriately named Axatana weapon, giving the player a tool that can be used as a heavy ax or a quick pair of katanas. Both stances come with their own unique moves, too.
Mortal Shell launched last year as a Soulslike where players can shake up combat by inheriting the attack styles of other warriors. It originally launched on PC via the Epic Games Store, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One, with PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X | S versions following in early 2021. Now Mortal Shell is arriving on Steam and GOG as well with this August release date set.
