Original Article: Microsoft kicked off their Xbox E3 2015 briefing Monday with a look at on of the most anticipated upcoming titles: Halo 5: Guardians. Halo 5 is a crucial title for Microsoft as a system seller, as they compete with Sony’s better-selling PlayStation 4.
343 Industries Head Bonnie Ross took the stage at the launch of the briefing with a cryptic question: “Master Chief, hero or traitor? Spartan Locke, friend or foe?”
Halo 4 ended with Master Chief mourning the loss of Cortana, who sacrificed herself to save him. Set eight months after the events of Halo 4, Halo 5: Guardians follows a broken Master Chief clearly struggling with his position. Earlier this month, we also learned that Master Chief’s story would be heavily affected by the Blue Team.
The trailer opened with Agent Locke and Osiris team on the hunt for Master Chief. From the look of the trailer, the story jumps between Chief’s story and Locke’s. Both will allow for drop in/drop out four player co-op. 343 Industries has been extremely quiet regarding specifics of the Halo 5 storyline to this point.
Additionally, after it was revealed that Halo 5 would not support split-screen co-op, many fans were concerned about the future of the franchise. However, a new mutiplayer option was teased, and Monday it was revealed that this option would be called Warzone. Warzone will allow for 24 players, AI controlled adversaries, and maps “up to four times the size” of any former Halo map. Halo 5 will quite literally be the biggest Halo title fans have ever seen.
Halo 5: Guardians releases on October 27, 2015.
