Sony has updated its release date schedule for the new, tiered PlayStation Plus subscription service. Sony Interactive Entertainment president and CEO Jim Ryan said at the PlayStation.Blog that the company is “making fantastic progress” toward launch, so the service will be arriving slightly earlier in some regions.
Here is the targeted release date for the new, upgraded PlayStation Plus service in several regions:
- Asia markets (excluding Japan) – targeting May 23, 2022
- Japan – targeting June 1, 2022
- Americas – targeting June 13, 2022
- Europe – targeting June 22, 2022
Ryan also revealed additional markets will be able to take advantage of PlayStation Plus’s cloud streaming feature via its Premium tier. Those extra areas eligible for the Premium tier include Bulgaria, Croatia, Czech Republic, Greece, Hungary, Malta, Poland, Republic of Cyprus, Romania, Slovakia, and Slovenia.
Sony formally announced its long-rumored tier-based PlayStation Plus overhaul last month. Its three tiers — Essential, Extra, and Premium — give subscribers more options to choose from, each bringing their own benefits. The Extra and Premium tiers are for those looking for an Xbox Game Pass-like service to turn to, offering more than 700 games in total across multiple generations of PlayStation hardware. The Essential tier, meanwhile, is a continuation of the current PlayStation Plus benefits.
Expect more details, such as a full list of the games included in its library of downloadable and streaming titles, to arrive as the PlayStation Plus tier system begins life next month.
