New Pokémon Snap Reveals Gorgeous Lental Region, Launches in April

New Pokémon Snap, Pokémon, Nintendo, Switch, release date

The second trailer for New Pokémon Snap finally confirms the game’s April 30 release date on Nintendo Switch, but the video most importantly gives us a better look at the game’s adorable wildlife too. Today’s trailer takes us to the Lental region, where many Pokémon are waiting to be observed. The footage showcases a number of biomes for players to explore, and as with the original Nintendo 64 game, there will be various ways to coax out creatures to have their picture taken. It appears developer Bandai Namco packed in lots of new details for fans. See some of the new islands to adventure through for yourself in the video below.

Nintendo has shared the following about what to expect while playing New Pokémon Snap:

Professor Mirror will evaluate and score players’ photos taken on their adventures. Pokémon photography is evaluated based on the subjects’ poses, how large they appear, how directly they’re facing the camera and where they fall in frame. As players take more photos and fulfill research on their journey, they may see Pokémon look and behave in entirely new ways. Players will have to take many photos and use their highest-scoring shots to fill out their Photodex, a collection of Pokémon photographs.

This sequel to the Nintendo 64 cult classic was revealed for Nintendo Switch in June of last year. With the original releasing more than 20 years ago, New Pokémon Snap has decades of new Pokémon for players to take pictures of.

That April release date for New Pokémon Snap is still a while away, but preorders for the game have begun today, including on the Nintendo Switch eShop. Expect more Pokémon-related announcements to arrive throughout the year as Nintendo continues to celebrate the franchise’s 25th anniversary. Just yesterday, the series’s official Twitter account shared a nostalgia-packed trip down memory lane to help kick off this year’s festivities, concluding with the reveal that a Katy Perry collaboration is in the works.
