Obi-Wan Kenobi Premiere Date Delayed 2 Days, Will Release 2 Episodes

Star Wars Obi-Wan Kenobi Disney+ Plus TV series premiere release date delay two days two episodes

Patience, you must have. At least two more days of it. Disney, via a video from Ewan McGregor, just announced that the Star Wars: Obi-Wan Kenobi premiere date is delayed by two days. Instead of landing on Wednesday, May 25, Obi-Wan Kenobi now has a premiere date of Friday, May 27. To make up for that, Disney+ will be releasing the first two episodes that day instead of just one, meaning we’ll get to see an entire third of the series in one go. The show will drop new episodes each Wednesday after.

A two-day delay may seem odd, but there are a couple good reasons that the studio probably did it. The move not only aligns the series premiere with Star Wars Celebration, the major Star Wars convention occurring that weekend, but it also means that Disney won’t have two major series vying for attention for as long. With Ms. Marvel announcing a release date of June 8, the shows would have been overlapping for a few weeks. By dropping two episodes on May 27, Obi-Wan Kenobi will be over a week sooner, giving Ms. Marvel more time on its own.

The real question is why this wasn’t planned out months ago. Yes, Obi-Wan has been delayed and changed a lot, so maybe it’s not premiering exactly when Disney originally thought it would. But considering it’s all one big company, you’d think something like this would have been noticed before announcing release dates.

Star Wars: Obi-Wan Kenobi sees Ewan McGregor return to the role of the character he took over for the prequel trilogy. In it, he’ll be watching after Luke on Tatooine while dealing with the fallout from the slaughter of nearly all the Jedi in the universe.
