Obi-Wan Kenobi Series Goes Behind the Scenes, Teases Darth Vader Rematch

Disney+ sizzle reel series Obi-Wan Kenobi Darth Vader rematch battle concept art Ewan McGregor Deborah Chow

A Disney+ sizzle reel for the upcoming Obi-Wan Kenobi series has disseminated early online, offering concept art and behind-the-scenes discussion from lead actor Ewan McGregor and director Deborah Chow. No actual series footage is provided, but it provides a great glimpse at everything else, including concept art of Obi-Wan Kenobi and Darth Vader (played by Hayden Christensen) throwing down for a Star Wars rematch.

“This is quite a dark time that we’re coming into with (Obi-Wan), just being a Jedi — it’s not safe,” explained Chow, setting the scene for the series. “There’s Jedi hunters out there.” The starting point of the story will be Obi-Wan’s task to keep Luke Skywalker safe, but things will expand in surprising new directions from there — directions that inevitably involve Darth Vader.

Along those lines, McGregor said, “The most beautiful thing of all is that it’s brought me back together with Hayden (Christensen).” Christensen is not featured in the Obi-Wan Kenobi sizzle reel, but McGregor said it might be “quite satisfying for everybody” for Obi-Wan Kenobi and Darth Vader to have “another swing at each other.”

For various reasons, the Star Wars sequel trilogy left the franchise and fan opinions in a somewhat fractured state, but the prequel trilogy era has been redeemed and enhanced time and again, becoming a surprising bastion for fans young and old. Meanwhile, Star Wars video games are going strong by largely avoiding the sequel trilogy era as well, with upcoming titles like Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic – Remake and Star Wars Hunters.

In any case, leaked early or not, this Obi-Wan Kenobi sizzle reel and its concept art paint a pretty exciting picture for a rematch with Darth Vader.
