Outriders Delayed to April Fools’ Day, Free Demo Coming Next Month

Square Enix’s Outriders has been delayed to April 1, 2021, but you’ll be able to play a free demo next month. An update statement posted on social media by the publisher and developer People Can Fly says that their co-op shooter will miss its original Feb. 2 launch date. Instead, come Feb. 25, you’ll get to go hands-on and try the game out for yourself. The team said it will “spend this extra time fine tuning the game and focusing on delivering a fantastic play experience at launch.”

The team additionally explained, “We believe it’s important that players get to experience a new IP like Outriders before release, so that you can decide for yourselves whether the game is something you wish to pre-order, purchase or play.”

You can see the entire statement below.

Square Enix and People Can Fly revealed Outriders during E3 2019 as the publisher’s latest IP. The game was first scheduled to arrive on PC, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and (eventually) PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X | S for summer 2020 before a delay saw it moved to its previous February date.

The Escapist had a chance to speak with People Can Fly CEO Sebastian Wojciechowski about Square Enix and what it’s like to design new worlds. We also got to try Outriders for ourselves in August of last year, so check out our thoughts before you try February’s demo for yourself.
