The Overwatch Anniversary Event is real, and it starts on Tuesday. There’s even a free weekend coming.
Last week, we told you that datamining had revealed plans for an Overwatch Anniversary Event. Today, Blizzard has confirmed that the event is real, and that it kicks off next Tuesday, May 23.
That’s not all. In addition to the anniversary event, Blizzard is also going to have an Overwatch free weekend May 26-29. The game will be free-to-play for all on PC, PS4, and Xbox One. As is usual for free weekends like this, any progress you make will carry over if you end up buying the game.
Also confirmed is the rumored Game of the Year Edition. It will add 10 loot boxes to the old Collector’s Edition skins, and will still include the content for other Blizzard games. That means you’ll get Tracer for Heroes of the Storm, a baby Winston pet for World of Warcraft, Mercy’s Wings for Diablo 3, in-game portraits for StarCraft 2, and card-backs for Hearthstone.
If you’re interested in the free weekend, you can find more information over on the official Overwatch site.
