Grinding Gear Games has confirmed that it has no plans to release Path of Exile 2 in 2020.
The latest development update from the team notes that Path of Exile will again receive major quarterly expansions across this coming year, but that will not include the sequel content.
As revealed during ExileCon in November last year, Path of Exile 2 will not be a traditional sequel. Instead, the game will come as a massive update to the existing platform in build 4.0.0.
The team has noted that public testing for that release is expected to take place in late 2020, but that “depends a lot on how much we’re able to scale up the team this year to finish the remaining acts and new systems.” That content will include a 7-act storyline, 19 new classes, and significant tweaks to the equipment and skill systems.
Grinding Gear Games expects to be able to have its next public showing of content for Path of Exile 2 in the middle of the year, “Maybe around E3.”
In the meantime, the team plans to announce the next expansion for Path of Exile in late February. Meanwhile, the studio is currently building up its console staff to “more quickly develop the features the console users are looking forward to.”
