Pen-And-Paper Creator Talks Cyberpunk 2077

Seen the latest braindance yet, or are you a retrobore?

“[CD Projekt RED’s] quoting back to me things I forgot,” says Mike Pondsmith, author of the pen-and-paper RPG that the Polish developer is building on for its Cyberpunk 2077. He’s really looking forward to seeing what CD Projekt RED will do with the ideas he and his fellow punks were playing with way back when; ideas about people and how they behave, rather than how they play with their techno-toys.

“Working with Mike Pondsmith is a great experience for the studio,” says Adam Badowski of CD Projekt RED. “Many of the people behind Cyberpunk 2077 have played his game and having his support is very important for us.”

The studio is busy world-building right now, with its talking heads debating the nature of the latest entertainment phenomenon, brain dance – “you’re not experiencing anything, you’re a peeping tom,” says Santiago, only to be met with “all retrobores who miss good old reality are kindly requested to kiss my hard link” from opposition McDermitt – and making sure the forums are up and running.

Cyberpunk 2077 is a dystopian future game set in fictional west coast urban hellscape Night City – “nobody ever leaves Night City, except in a body bag,” as Bes Isis used to say – and is still listed as “coming when it’s ready” for the moment, which probably means 2015. So be patient, choomba, as there’s a ways to go yet.
