Persona 5 Delayed Until Summer 2016

Publisher softens blow with new trailer.

Atlus has announced that the fifth installment in the Shin Megami Tensei: Persona series will not be arriving this year as previously planned.

In a video released this week (summarized by Siliconera), series director Katsura Hashino offered an apology and provided some of the reasoning behind the decision, stating that the team needs additional time to tune gameplay and deliver a “more complete” game.

In the mean time, a new trailer has been released for Tokyo Game Show. The video shows some brief combat, a few grotesque enemies, and a handful of personas from the game.

The release window of Summer 2016 displayed at the end of the trailer likely only applies to the Japanese release, with the publisher’s US division only stating that the game will release in Japan and the Americas in 2016. While releases in the Shin Megami series have been coming to the west more quickly as it’s gained in popularity, it could still be several months before a North American launch.

When it does finally release, Persona 5 will be available for PlayStation 3 and PlayStation 4 consoles.
