“Pigeon Dating Sim” Hatoful Boyfriend Remake Coming This Summer

Devolver Digital will publish an upgraded version of Hatoful Boyfriend for all the bird lovers.

Developer Mediatonic and publisher Devolver Digital have teamed up to release an upgraded version of a dating sim with a cult following, Hatoful Boyfriend. The game will launch this summer.

The game originally released in 2011 by developer Hato Moa. Hatoful Boyfriend had a limited release as a free demo and then later a full release with an epilogue. The English version of the game contained some typos and mistakes, and the game had very limited compatibility to no compatibility with Windows 7, Vista, and Mac OS X above 10.6.

Despite its nickname as the “Pigeon Dating Sim,” Hatoful Boyfriend features many kinds of birds from a mourning dove to a chukar partridge. You play as the only human attending St. PigeoNation’s prestigious bird school. There you will learn about your bird friends, such as your childhood friend, the pigeon named Ryouta, and form bonds with your bird classmates and teacher. As someone who has played the original game, I can only hint to new players that underneath Hatoful Boyfriend‘s hilarious concept, there are hints to something more nefarious.

Devolver Digital CFO Fork Parker said in a prepared statement, “Our research shows that consumer fatigue for space marines and dragons is at an all-time high – gamers are ready for something new and fresh. Semi-realistic pigeon dating simulations are the next great frontier in video games.”

Hatoful Boyfriend will launch on PC and Mac via Steam, GOG, Humble, and other digital storefronts this summer with improved art and music.
