Sony’s PlayStation Studios has announced that it has acquired Bluepoint Games, which most recently handled the Demon’s Souls remake for PlayStation 5. The studio also previously created remasters of Shadow of the Colossus and Uncharted: The Nathan Drake Collection on PlayStation 4.
Based in Austin, Texas, the studio was founded back in 2006 and contains nearly 70 employees now. “PlayStation has such an iconic gaming catalog and for us, there’s been nothing better than to bring some of gaming’s masterpieces to new players,” wrote Bluepoint Games president Marco Thrush in a statement. “Becoming a part of PlayStation Studios empowers our team to raise the quality bar even further and create even more impactful experiences for the PlayStation community.”

While Bluepoint is known for its remakes, Thrush also said in an interview with the Washington Post that being part of Sony means that the studio can start working on more “original” content, whether it’s a new IP or a new entry in an existing franchise. When asked about original titles that Bluepoint is now working on due to the acquisition, Thrush only gestured sealing his lips.
Bluepoint’s acquisition was accidentally already revealed to the public back in June of this year Sony announced it had acquired Returnal developer Housemarque, but PlayStation Japan uploaded the wrong image showing the PlayStation Studio logo alongside Bluepoint’s.
