Pokémon Legends: Arceus got a chance to shine in a new gameplay trailer that highlights some of the game’s open-world mechanics. The Pokémon Company held another one of its Pokémon Presents presentations today, which came packed with lots of updates on titles new and old. In the video, it’s shown that players can ride on some Pokémon, with some versions of already known monsters exclusive to this version of the Sinnoh region, called the Hisui Region in this earlier era.
The player character can also be attacked by wild Pokémon according to their personalities, which is a whole new kind of scary no one saw coming. Players can further engage in a research component of the game, which sees them discovering new kinds of Pokémon and reporting their findings. Though you’ll start your adventure just as in many other Pokémon games, Pokémon Legends: Arceus looks to present its own, more action-y adventure early next year, with seemingly some light Monster Hunter elements like dodge-rolling and crafting included.
However, there is also a new variation of turn-based Pokémon battles as well, where the creatures have “Strong” and “Agile” styles that can result in hitting harder or getting in more turns than your opponent respectively. You can watch the Pokémon Legends: Arceus gameplay trailer below, and there are additional details at the official website.
Pokémon Legends: Arceus was first revealed for Nintendo Switch this past February as an open-world RPG set in Pokémon Diamond and Pearl’s Sinnoh region. However, the story of this new outing takes place long before the events of the original Nintendo DS titles. Players can wander freely and catch wild Pokémon, with some monsters acting more friendly than others.
Pokémon Legends Arceus will release for Switch on January 28, 2022.
