Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Blue Rescue Team and Red Rescue Team, which released in 2005 in Japan and 2006 worldwide, are receiving an enhanced remake for the Nintendo Switch in just a couple months.
Unveiled during today’s Pokémon Direct, the new version of the Game Boy Advance and Nintendo DS title is called Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Rescue Team DX and will release on March 6, 2020. The biggest difference that fans will notice is that the game’s 2D sprite work has been replaced with a fully 3D world that has a watercolor aesthetic. Beyond that, some new features can be seen in the trailer below as Charizard is seen Mega Evolving during combat, an ability that was added to the series much later.
Gamers won’t have to wait until March to get a good look at the Switch remake, though. Nintendo announced that a demo for Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Rescue Team DX will hit the Nintendo eShop later today. It will allow players to experience the opening moments of the turn-based dungeon crawler firsthand and decide if the remake is worth purchasing. Plus, players’ save data will transfer over to the full game.

A spin-off of Spike Chunsoft’s Mystery Dungeon series, Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Rescue Team DX revolves around the player mysteriously waking up as a Pokémon in a world without humans. What character they control is determined via a personality test, (The original featured 16 possible protagonists.) and they then start a rescue team to help out other struggling pocket monsters as the world is under attack from natural disasters. The ultimate goal is to figure out what is causing all of the mayhem in the world, learn why the player is now a Pokémon, and find a way to get back to their normal life as a human.
