If you like Pokémon, puzzles, and old things, then merry Christmas: Nintendo will add Pokémon Puzzle League to the Nintendo 64 library of Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack on July 15, 2022. Pokémon Puzzle League originally released on Nintendo 64 in 2000 as a game that applies the Pokémon aesthetic to Panel de Pon / Tetris Attack gameplay. It was critically well-received, so it will make a fine addition to Switch Online next week.
Nintendo has shared a video for the announcement of Pokémon Puzzle League for Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack. As a reminder, Expansion Pack is a more expensive tier of NSO, which provides access to Nintendo 64 games, Sega Genesis games, and expansions to games like Animal Crossing: New Horizons. Prior to Pokémon Puzzle League, the most recent addition to the Nintendo 64 library was Pokémon Snap, and before that came Kirby 64: The Crystal Shards.
Incidentally, Pokémon Puzzle League is the first game to join the Nintendo 64 lineup in Expansion Pack that wasn’t already announced in advance by Nintendo last year. There’s no telling what’s next, though datamining from last October teased the possibility of games like the first three Mario Party titles. Also, it’s worth noting that Japan is receiving Custom Robo games instead of Puzzle League.
On the Sega Genesis end, Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack added some heavy hitters last week, including Mega Man: The Wily Wars and Comix Zone.
