The Pokémon Company has released a new trailer with new details for Pokémon Scarlet and Violet, including a November 18, 2022 release date on Nintendo Switch. Additionally, Pokémon Scarlet and Violet will include upward of four-player multiplayer for its open-world adventure. There are not substantial details available for that yet, but this is what The Pokémon Company has offered:
Pokémon Scarlet and Pokémon Violet allow multiplayer gameplay with up to four players.,Along with series staples, such as trading and battling Pokémon, you will be able to explore the various locations of the region in these games with other players. You can discover new Pokémon and explore unfamiliar areas with your friends and family, opening the door to an adventure more precious and fun than ever!
This time around, Professor Sada and Turo are the new professors to guide you on your journey in Scarlet and Violet respectively. You will make a friend (rival?) in Nemona, a cheery and experienced Pokémon trainer who will guide you on your journey but is “not the best at throwing Poké Balls.”
Whether that last part is just a cutesy detail or if it points to Pokémon Legends: Arceus-style Pokémon capture is not yet clear, as the new Pokémon Scarlet and Violet release date trailer did not actually dig into the combat system or related mechanics much. There are only a couple seconds of combat, and it seems in the vein of traditional, menu-based Pokémon battles, albeit apparently taking place directly in the open world.
Finally, in addition to teasing an open world, the November 2022 release date, 4-player multiplayer, and trainer customization options, the Pokémon Scarlet and Violet box art was revealed, complete with new Legendary Pokémon. The Pokémon Company does not seem to have released details on these Legendaries yet, except that their names are Koraidon and Miraidon.
