The Predator prequel Prey has received its first teaser trailer from 20th Century Studios ahead of its August 5, 2022 release date onto Hulu. Prey is directed by 10 Cloverfield Lane director Dan Trachtenberg and is set 300 years in the past, focusing on a Comanche Nation warrior named Naru who comes into conflict with a Predator. Her skills are impressive, but with an arsenal not nearly as advanced as that of her adversary, Naru will have her work cut out for her if she wants to survive.
The Prey teaser trailer offers a short story synopsis:
(Naru) has been raised in the shadow of some of the most legendary hunters who roam the Great Plains, so when danger threatens her camp, she sets out to protect her people. The prey she stalks, and ultimately confronts, turns out to be a highly evolved alien predator with a technically advanced arsenal, resulting in a vicious and terrifying showdown between the two adversaries.
Prey is written by Jack Ryan and Treadstone scribe Patrick Aison, and it’s produced by The Predator’s John Davis and Monsters of God’s Jhane Myers. Lawrence Gordon, Marty Ewing, James E. Thomas, John C. Thomas, and Marc Toberoff are executive producers.
First word of Prey arrived back in November 2020, when Deadline reported that Trachtenberg would direct the next mainline Predator movie. The director later said that his film would go “back to what made the original Predator movie work.”
