Sony’s latest 40 GB iteration of the PlayStation 3 console may have shrunk in more than its hard drive capacity.
A German website, Computerbase.de, reports that the new console will run a 65 nanometer version of the Cell processor.
The $400 unit will be rid of the PS2’s Emotion chip, graphics synth chip and two USB ports.
The German site also asserts a smaller heat pipe and new motherboard have been implemented.
It adds that the production changes should result in less heat and noise – though, unlike the 360, the PS3 has not been vulnerable to claims of faulty production.
