A PS3 collection of the first three Ratchet & Clank games will allow players to unleash the Lombax/robot duo’s wacky arsenal in full HD.
Did you know that the Ratchet & Clank series is ten years old this year? Given the more-or-less yearly release schedule (there are ten games in the series, not counting a cell phone spinoff), the quirky duo has managed to keep a pretty consistent level of quality. While the first three PS2 games still hold up well today, some of the shine is coming off around the edges, and that’s no way to treat two heroes who have saved the galaxy time and time again. In honor of the team’s 10th anniversary, Sony will be releasing the Ratchet & Clank Collection for PS3, which will collect Ratchet & Clank, Going Commando, and Up Your Arsenal in full 1080p high-definition.
The Ratchet and Clank collection follows in the wake of similar compilations for God of War, Sly Cooper, Jak and Daxter and other popular PS2 series. In addition to a “full 1080p HD remaster” (which is interesting, as most PS3 games display at 720p), Insomniac Games also promises that the competitive online multiplayer from Up Your Arsenal will return.
European fans will receive the game fairly soon (Spring 2012), but North American fans will have to hold out until Fall. The wait might be worth it, however, as Ted Price, Insomniac’s CEO states that “we have something very special planned for our North American fans to celebrate the 10th anniversary.” Until then, this may be a good time to check out All 4 One, which launched against Arkham City. It seems that Ratchet and Clank may be intergalactic superheroes, but even they don’t have the chops to stand up to Batman.
