Real doubles the size of its gaming business with an acquisition of an online publisher.

Software firm RealNetworks, famous for its Rhapsody music download service, has purchased Trymedia Systems Inc., the digital distributor of videogames for Macrovision Corp., to compliment its investments in its RealGames division and last year’s acquisition of Game Trust. Trymedia works with over 2,500 clients such as AOL and Yahoo to syndicate online games and hosts its own TryGames website and PC game store.

“This acquisition doubles the scale of our syndication business and we are incredibly excited to welcome the Trymedia team,” said Harold Zeitz, Senior Vice President of RealGames. “Trymedia has been a leader in the digital distribution space, so together we have a full portfolio of syndication services that we can offer partners.”

Shares of RealNetworks (RNWK) have trended upward since the announcement to $5.95, up 1.36 percent since the market’s opening.
