Respawn Entertainment has started work on a “brand new” single-player adventure game and is looking to hire new talent to join its “small, but ambitious” team. Studio creative director Mohammad Alavi shared the news on Twitter, linking applications for a lead technical game designer, senior technical game designer, senior combat designer, and senior level designer.
We're developing a brand new singleplayer adventure from Respawn Entertainment. We're a small, but ambitious team with a history of dreaming big and making splashes. Whether this new Respawn game will fall into an existing universe like Titanfall or Star Wars is unclear, but “brand new” would suggest otherwise. A short description can be found on each job’s posting:
This new singleplayer title is a designer’s dream playground with a freedom to innovate made possible by the unique universe it inhabits. Our critically acclaimed, multi-platform games have always established a “fun comes first” sensibility in a design process that allows creativity and new ideas to shine.
This follows from yesterday’s EA Play Live showcase. Though the presentation spotlighted many multiplayer titles, such as Apex Legends and Battlefield 2042, it still featured a major single-player reveal in the form of the Dead Space remake. EA seems to have renewed its interest in single-player experiences recently following the success of Respawn’s Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order. The story-centered experience took players on a new solo adventure in 2019, and earlier this year, the game received upgraded versions on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X | S.
In other Respawn news, we found out earlier this month that the studio’s number of developers working on Titanfall has dwindled to only one or two people. Much of the team has been busy working on Apex Legends; the company even opened a new Vancouver location to focus on the battle royale last year.
