Respawn Entertainment is working on a AAA first-person shooter (FPS) that focuses on “style” and “mobility,” according to a report from GamesBeat’s Jeff Grubb, and past reporting indicates it will be single-player. Including Apex Legends and the sequel to Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order, this is the third major title the EA developer is working on. The report states that this is not a Titanfall 3, and the studio will continue prototyping concepts for the project for the next year or so, hoping to build toward an eventual final release in 2023 or 2024.
The news follows the recent departure of Respawn creative director Mohammad Alavi, who was overseeing the project. Respawn announced in 2020 that Alavi had assembled a team to create this single-player adventure title. The EA developer will continue work on the stylish FPS without Alavi, though he did share a few parting words on Twitter: “Today’s (bittersweet): I’m excited about my next adventure, but I’m sad about leaving behind a family. It’s the end of an era.”
(1/2) Today was my last day at Respawn Entertainment. It feels surreal. I've made games for 18 years ever only at two companies: Infinity Ward and Respawn. 11 of those years have been at Respawn, a company I helped form.

With or without this new single-player FPS, Respawn has a lot of vocal fans. In addition to fleshing out more content for Apex Legends, the developer has been bombarded by fans clamoring for a new entry in the Titanfall franchise. Meanwhile, reports suggest the first information on Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order 2 is coming in the next few months. The project is supposedly targeting a 2022 release but could easily slip into 2023.
