Housemarque, the developer behind PlayStation 5 exclusive Returnal, announced that it has joined PlayStation as a first-party studio. The developer is also known for other games such as Nex Machina, Super Stardust HD, and Resogun.
Hermen Hulst welcomed Housemarque into its new family, saying “This addition enhances the creative force of PlayStation Studios, and I cannot wait to see what the future holds for Housemarque.”
“With the backing of SIE and its family of studios supporting us, we can truly grow into our place in the industry and show what Housemarque can create with no limitations,” added Ilari Kuittinen, Housemarque co-founder and managing director. “We can’t wait to show everyone what will be in store in the upcoming years, and we hope to usher in more lasting memories and exhilarating titles for the next quarter-century and beyond.”

Housemarque is located in Helsinki, Finland and is the oldest game studio in the area, with over 26 years of experience. This acquisition affords the developer stability for its workers and the funding it needs to push the boundaries of narrative-driven games that PlayStation is well known for.
With Returnal having only launched back in April, it’ll be exciting to see what Housemarque comes up with next for PlayStation 5.
