Battlefield 2042 support developer DICE LA has a new name: Ripple Effect Studios, as announced at the official studio page on the Electronic Arts website. The name change owes to several factors, including a more refined studio philosophy and the announcement that the company is starting work on its own new game. There’s no information on what this next project is, and the studio is still supporting development of Battlefield 2042, which releases in October.
We learned early last year that DICE LA would likely see some sort of rebrand when Respawn Entertainment founder Vince Zampella joined the studio to lead. Zampella will continue his efforts at the studio going forward, alongside General Manager Christian Grass.
“We’re so proud of our work as DICE LA and the DICE team will forever be a part of our DNA, but over the past eight years, we’ve developed our own culture and our own way of doing things,” Grass said. “We’re excited to look towards the future, expand the team and establish our own identity.”
Speaking with IGN, Grass elaborated on the reorganizing and future of Ripple Effect. Despite not confirming that the studio would work on another shooter, Grass did say, “So of course what we want to do is tap into the strengths of the studio and kind of focus on that.” He added that DICE LA learned a lot when working to stabilize and enhance Battlefield 4 following its heavily criticized launch: “So that’s another thing that we’re really passionate about, which is working very closely with community.”
Ripple Effect Studios will debut its new Battlefield 2042 mode during this month’s EA Play presentation. Grass said that showing fans the team’s work on the game will offer a taste of the studio’s future: “The experience that we are building for Battlefield 2042 […] is sort of setting us up in a way so when it’s revealed you can see there is a new future for Ripple Effect.”
