Proving that it can craft suitable gaming adaptations of classic Western revenge flicks, as well as Scorcese-esque crime dramas, Grand Theft Auto creator Rockstar Games has unveiled the first footage from Red Dead Redemption.
The game, a sequel to 2004’s Red Dead Revolver, tells the tale of former outlaw James Marston as he attempts to tame the wilder parts of the American west.
While the trailer doesn’t show off much in the way of actual gameplay, it does offer two solid arguments for why RDR should be on your radar.
First, the in-game dialogue and storytelling seems to mirror that found in Grand Theft Auto IV, both in its depth and mature themes and its quality.
Second, Rockstar seems to have leveraged some truly impressive graphical technology for RDR. I’m no horse biologist, but the meticulously rendered haunches featured at the 47 second mark make Lou Ferrigno look like Edward Norton.
Red Dead Redemption hits shelves the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 sometime this Fall.
