Rockstar North has responded with a firm “no comment” to reports that a PC version of Grand Theft Auto IV will be released by the end of the year.
Reports of a possible PC edition of the game first surfaced in January among French retailers, according to a CVG report, and German online game seller City Disc now has a Games for Windows version of the title listed as being available on October 30 of this year. A disclaimer attached to the ad has been translated as, “The release date for GTA 4 for PC has not yet been confirmed by the publisher, Take 2. The release date is not guaranteed and is open to change.”
When contacted by CVG for comment, Rockstar responded with a simple “no comment,” but the article points out that Grand Theft Auto III and its sequels typically took six to eight months to transition from console to PC, which would fit with a late-2008 release.
Grand Theft Auto IV was released on April 29 to unprecedented levels of praise, achieving perfect review scores from IGN, 1Up, EuroGamer, GameSpy, Game Informer, Official Xbox Magazine, GameDaily, GameSpot, GamePlanet and numerous others. The game currently has a 99/100 ranking on Metacritic based on 31 reviews, and many analysts have predicted it will be the most successful videogame launch of all time.
