The Deep End Games has launched a Kickstarter for its Metroidvania action RPG dating show game, Romancelvania: BATchelor’s Curse. The studio is based in Boston and is made up of veteran game developers who have worked on titles such as BioShock, BioShock Infinite, and Saint’s Row. Romancelvania features Drac, who after being defeated by Van Helsing hides for 99 years in his castle. Drac’s best friend, Grim, manages to get him out of a slump by suggesting putting on a reality dating show.
Drac now journeys through Transylvania to find other monsters to join his reality dating show. Or else he’ll kill them. Throughout his travels, Drac will encounter a diverse group of monsters, including a kinky pumpkin witch, a were-human, a dead pirate, and even Medusa, who happens to be Drac’s ex.
Romancelvania also features base-building to accommodate rooms for the show’s cast. Different rooms provide stat bonuses and skills, while “mating” weapons in the Weapon Motel produces new weapons. Also, you can give characters a massage in the massage room to unlock new dialogue and date options.
Limited Run Games is partnering up with the studio, providing custom limited physical editions of the title. Other reward tiers in the Kickstarter campaign include being able to send in your own “audition tape” for the reality show to be included in a collection of rejected cast members, as well as collaborating with the studio to become a monster in the game.
Romancelvania: BATchelor’s Curse is scheduled to launch on PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, and Nintendo Switch late in 2021, but early 2022 is also possible. Check out our interview with The Deep End Games that exclusively announced the game and revealed many more details about its development.
