Square Enix has announced Romancing SaGa -Minstrel Song- Remastered for Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, PC via Steam, and Android and iOS mobile devices, arriving in winter 2022. As the name would suggest, it is a remaster of Romancing SaGa: Minstrel Song, which launched on PlayStation 2 back in 2005. However, that game is itself a remake of the RPG Romancing SaGa, which launched on Super Famicom in Japan in 1992. If you’re following so far, then you can check out the Romancing SaGa -Minstrel Song- Remastered announcement trailer below.
-Minstrel Song- Remastered will featured HD graphics, improved gameplay, and some new content. It retains all the key elements players remember: the “Glimmer” and “Combo” mechanics for learning new combat abilities, the Free-form Scenario System for playing as eight different characters in any order, and a soundtrack by Kenji Ito. Square Enix has not yet specified what any of the new content will be though. At the least, there will be quality-of-life enhancements.
Upon its original release, Romancing SaGa: Minstrel Song received a fairly lukewarm critical response, so it will be curious to see if Remastered can drum up more excitement. The SaGa series has seen a resurgence in general lately, after several successful remasters like SaGa Frontier Remastered and an unannounced new game in development.
At the moment, the Romancing SaGa -Minstrel Song- Remastered trailer is not the most beautiful thing we have ever seen, but it’s something to keep on the radar as its release window approaches this winter.
