Rumors continue to swirl about the still officially unannounced Ubisoft title Assassin’s Creed Ragnarok. They first began after The Division 2 released and included a Viking-themed Easter egg. Kotaku subsequently confirmed that the next Assassin’s Creed title would be focused on Vikings. More possible details emerged later last year on the popular image board 4chan, but there’s reason to be wary of information as fans have been caught faking store listings of Assassin’s Creed Ragnarok on GameStop and Amazon.
Now more alleged information has emerged from 4chan’s video games board. Due to the unverifiable nature of the rumor, make sure to take all of the details with a healthy dosage of salt. They note that Assassin’s Creed Ragnarok will release Sept. 29, 2020 and will be officially unveiled in February at an unspecified PlayStation event. It’s said to be a cross-gen title that will release for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and the two next-gen consoles launching next year. Similar to the recent Ghost Recon titles, Assassin’s Creed Ragnarok will allegedly feature four-player cooperative play.
Players will once again get to choose whether they play as a male or female protagonist, but they’ll both have the same name of Jora. The game is said to continue down the action role-playing game path that began with Assassin’s Creed Origins, and there are now different classes that players can pick. Increasing the quality of combat has been a major focus as there are now more weapon types and there’s a durability system similar to that seen in The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild that will require players to regularly switch between weapons.
Other intriguing alleged details include a reputation system where players manage reputation with each individual kingdom, and there will be dynamic battles playing out between the warring factions in the world. Players will be able to capture settlements and organize large-scale raids of forts and even entire cities. Mythical beasts such as a giant snake, dragon, kraken, and giant will also appear, as they’re said to protect temples that are spread throughout the game.
Allegedly, the map is “massive” and encompasses much of northern Europe, including major cities such as York, London, Paris, and Kiev. Assassin’s Creed Ragnarok is also said to begin in the year 845 as players get to play as Jora’s father, and it then cuts to 863 where the rest of the game takes place.
But to reiterate — these are all rumors. Nothing can be confirmed here without official word from Ubisoft.
