Big news for fans of Star Wars: Rebels as THR reports that Lucasfilm is currently looking for an actress to take on the role of Sabine Wren in the upcoming live-action Ahsoka series. Sabine Wren is a Mandalorian and was a key character in the Star Wars: Rebels series, which featured Ahsoka as well. She was a weapons expert and artist, and, at one point, wielded the Darksaber.
There is no word on any actresses being considered or really any other details, but this Sabine Wren casting would hint that Ahsoka is looking to tie up the conclusion of Star Wars: Rebels. At the end of that series, Wren and Ahsoka were on a search for their missing friend, Ezra Bridger. It may be that this new series will follow their efforts or at least let us know what happened during the search. Ahsoka seemed to be on her own when she appeared in The Mandalorian, but that doesn’t mean all that much.
It’s quickly becoming apparent that Disney+’s Star Wars efforts are, for the most part, just continuations of the Dave Filoni-run animated series Star Wars: The Clone Wars and Star Wars: Rebels. The plethora of characters from those shows making appearances and the loose storylines picked up in The Mandalorian and Star Wars: The Bad Batch are making it obvious that the live-action shows are so far being built around expanding the Star Wars universe as Skywalker Saga-adjacent, instead of branching out into newer territories. Given that the most beloved pieces of the franchises past the original trilogy are often those cartoons, and Filoni’s heavy involvement with leading Star Wars, it makes sense.
We’ll get our first taste of non-Mandalorian live-action Star Wars later this year when The Book of Boba Fett premieres on Disney+ this December.
