Check out the best costumes from one of the greatest cosplay events in the country.
For one special weekend in midsummer, fans descend on the city of San Diego in California to hear the latest news about comics, movies and TV. The concentration of nerd culture is extreme, and no one shows their geek spirit more than the thousands who don costumes and makeup to appear like their favorite characters. The level of cosplay dedication varies from the casual to holycrapinsane, and a correspondent on the ground in the San Diego Convention Center to capture the best visages. Many thanks to Hilton Collins for snapping all these great shots.
From Jedi and Sith, to Superman, Wonder Woman and Galactus, the cosplay from this year’s SDCC did not disappoint. Here are images from the best cosplay of the weekend. Share and enjoy!
You look like you need a drink, Tony.
Dr. Doom, you are one sexy mother … shut yo’ mouth.
Batman and Catwoman look a little too chummy in this shot.
Give a little whistle.
Gangster Two-face, you are creepy.
Who needs air conditioning when you’ve got Mr. Freeze pointing that thing at you?
Galactus looks a lot smaller in real life.
The Hedwig prop makes this Harry Potter costume work.
This Mileena looks pretty good, just don’t ask to look under that face covering.
Not sure what alien this is, but you’ve got to respect the dedication. Please sound off in the forums if you know this critter!
Those Special Tactics and Rescue Service (S.T.A.R.S.) men and women keep the zombie hordes at bay.
Like a great blue salmon of justice, the mighty Tick courses upstream to the very spawning ground of evil.
This Clark is packing something serious.
For you movie buffs, the Spartan from 300 who lost an eye and Selene from Underworld. I shudder to think what these two are doing together.
Lara Croft rebooted.
This custom-made Cyborg makes me smile.
This Mega-Man would make Dr. Light proud.
Had to grab this one from Justin’s brain: Karl Ruprecht Kroenen from Hellboy.
These Twi-leks are no nonsense.
Groovy.
Yes, those tattoos are real. The adamantium claws look pretty sharp too.
Batgirl!
It’s not a cosplay convention without a weeping angel.
A wizard is never late. He arrives precisely as he wants to.
Hi, I’m Flash!
Wow, Mercury (Cessily Kincaid) was an obscure X-men choice, but those are sometimes the most fun.
It’s never too early to cosplay an engineer from Prometheus.
The family that cosplays together, stays together.
Mighty Morphin’ Power Rangers. Wait, there’s a Gold one?
Such colorful Mandolorian armor can mean only one thing: These bounty hunters mean business.
I know Hawkeye and Captain America didn’t talk much in The Avengers, but they were really good pals.
I’ve seen a lot of Heath Ledger’s Joker cosplay, but the nurse outfit is a nice touch.
You don’t see enough Toad cosplay, really.
That reminds me, I have to play Fallout: New Vegas at some point.
Don’t worry about Harley. That’s just how she is.
Miss Marvel is a class act.
Sith warriors I wouldn’t want to meet in a dark Coruscant alley.
There were a lot of zombies at SDCC this year, but not as many Star Trek zombies.
Lady versions of Hawk and Dove.
Mindfang from Homestuck, with Redglare’s cane.
Cosplay is one thing. This Bumblebee is downright engineering.
Looks like an interpretation of Wonder Woman’s new duds that she never got to wear.
That’s a gaggle of Sailor Moon cosplayers, people.
Psylocke and Gambit, together again.
Prince Leia.
Gladiator from another world. (If anybody has a hint on who this is, let me know in the comments.)
The flip-flops really complete Storm’s older costume.
We’re going to open the identification of this one up to the crowd. The best we could come up with was Palutena from Kid Icarus.
Street Fighters assemble!
Green Arrow on the straight and narrow.
Jafar from Aladdin? You know, there just isn’t enough Disney villain cosplay.
Yeesh, spoke too soon. Hello there, Queen Grimhilde and the bad guy from The Black Cauldron.
Mega Man strikes a pose.
Created from the DNA of all history’s tyrants, Serpentor was my favorite Cobra character.
Xena and Thor make a cute couple, don’t they?
Pick a card, chère.
I like Wonder Woman. Deal with it.
Dueling Hatters.
‘Sup, Supes.
Danger! Danger!
If I see a ghost, I’m gonna call this couple.
You know, that costume is a lot more realistic than Ivy’s getup in Soul Calibur 5.
Nick Fury and Black Widow work well together because they both love of black leather.
