Today’s August 2022 Pokémon Presents offered up a fresh batch of details on Pokémon Scarlet and Violet, including new Pokémon like Cetitan and mechanics like Terastallize. The footage also served as our best look yet at the next generation of mainline Pokémon games, with lots of gameplay that showed how adventuring will work in the Paldea region. It additionally emphasized the new four-player multiplayer, with players able to roam and engage in Raid Battles with up to three friends by using the in-game Union Circle. “Tera Pokémon” defeated together during Tera Raids Battles can also be captured by the player.

Like with Z-Moves and Mega Evolutions in previous Pokémon releases, the Terastallize mechanic in Scarlet and Violet aims to shake up the series’s gameplay formula. Players can activate the move during battle to give their currently selected Pokémon a shiny gem-like form and — most importantly — a neat little hat. Pokémon that are Terastallized get a boost in type and have more powerful moves until the end of the match. Some, depending on their Tera Type, can even take on a new type entirely, with some examples shown including Pikachu turning into a Flying type and Drifblim changing into a Fire type. Meanwhile, Pokémon such as Eevee would typically remain Normal type after Terastallizing, but some may change into water or grass types.
Throughout Pokémon Scarlet and Violet’s three stories are many Pokémon, new and old. That includes the aforementioned Cetitan, an Ice type described as the “Terra Whale Pokémon.” There’s also Fidough, the Fairy-type puppy Pokémon, and Paldean Wooper, which sports the usual Wooper look but features a brown poison coat instead of their usual blue appearance. Fidough
Fidough’s moist, smooth skin has elastic qualities and is both firm and soft at the same time. When these Pokémon become excited, they intimidate their opponents by puffing up their bodies to appear bigger. Fidough ferments things in its vicinity using the yeast in its breath. The yeast is useful for cooking, so this Pokémon has been protected by people since long ago.

Paldean Wooper
In ancient times, Wooper lived underwater in the Paldea region. After losing in a struggle for territory, it seems they began living in bogs on land. To keep from drying out while living on land, they began to cover their bodies with a poisonous film. Their gills have hardened thanks to living on land for so long. Their bodies are heavy and they move slowly, but they can protect themselves by shooting powerful poisonous liquid from their gills.

Cetitan
Cetitan need to have tough muscles to be able to support their immense bodies, and physical attacks using their bodies have incredible power. They also migrate around the snowy regions, protected by a thick layer of fat.

Players who purchase either game early will be gifted an in-game Pikachu that both has a Tera type of Fly and knows the move “Fly.” You only need to use the in-game Mystery Gift feature before February 28, 2023 to claim it.
