Do you like scary movies? How about scary movies that are decades old and have already been soft rebooted once but are doing it again? Then you’re going to love the trailer for Scream, the upcoming sequel / reboot of the horror franchise that has ironically become the exact kind of film the original made fun of. The new Scream reboot trailer released today, showing off the return of Neve Campbell (Sidney Prescott), Courteney Cox (Gale Weathers), and David Arquette (Dewey Riley).
As the Scream reboot trailer shows, the killer in the Ghostface mask is back again, and it’s once again a mystery who he or she is. Ghostface is targeting a group of teens connected to all the original film’s deaths and is set to uncover some more deadly secrets about the town. Pulled back into the action, as they always are, are Sidney, Dewey, and Gale as they try once again the solve the mystery of the killer. Just how this film will stand out from Scream 4, which was released in 2011 and already took a meta-meta slant to the franchise in deconstructing its own history, isn’t too clear, but it does look like it could be pretty scary.
Joining the original cast members are Melissa Barrera, Kyle Gallner, Mason Gooding, Mikey Madison, Dylan Minnette, Jenna Ortega, Jack Quaid, Marley Shelton, Jasmin Savoy Brown, and Sonia Ammar. The film is directed by Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett, who most recently directed the enjoyable Ready or Not.
Scream will release January 14, 2022.
