Simon Pegg Says He’ll Be Returning for Mission: Impossible 7

Simon Pegg returns for Mission: Impossible 7

It’s hard not to be excited for Mission: Impossible 7 after Mission: Impossible — Fallout breathed new life into the franchise and taught us all how to grow a beard by reloading our fists. It’s also easier because Simon Pegg has let slip that he’ll be returning to the series alongside Tom Cruise and Rebecca Ferguson, though the news isn’t official.

The actor let it slip during an interview with Canadian program Our City Tonight for the new film Lost Transmissions. Pegg was asked the bog-standard question of what he was doing next, but instead of a generic response he actually dropped some news, saying, “I have another Mission: Impossible to start next year.” While most probably expected him to return, it had not been officially revealed yet by director/writer Christopher McQuarrie, who has been making casting announcements for the film over Twitter. And in case you’re wondering about the timeline, the interview was only just released this year but was recorded at the 2019 Whistler Film Festival, which took place in December. Thus, when Simon Pegg says “next year,” it means they will be filming Mission: Impossible 7 this year.

There are absolutely no details for the plot of the next M:I film, but the cast and crew have a lot to live up to after Fallout‘s genre-defining turn. Joining Cruise, Ferguson, and Pegg in the new movie will be Hayley Atwell, Shea Whigham, and Pom Klementieff.

Mission: Impossible 7 will release on July 23, 2021.
