Dust off that copy of Singstar Bollywood as the latest patch for the PlayStation 3 karaoke title breathes new life into your PS2 discs.
Happy anniversary, Singstar for PlayStation 3. You’re officially one year old and even though your online library of downloadable songs has grown to over 300 songs, many long-time Singstar fans have been wondering what to do with their old PlayStation 2 editions of their favorite karaoke series. When Harmonix released Rock Band 2 for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, it allowed owners of the original game to copy the old songs to their hard drive for use in the new one. Surely, this can be done with Singstar and its dozens and dozens of releases, right?
Well, not quite, but today Sony issued a patch for the PlayStation 3 edition of Singstar that grants users the ability to play their PlayStation 2 versions of the game through the PS3. Unfortunately, one can’t transfer the songs themselves to the PlayStation 3 hard drive, so the patch enables what is essentially a disc swap method. Even so, it sure beats the pants off of constantly restarting your console every time someone wants to sing “A Whole New World” or “Summertime” by the DJ Jazzy Jeff and the Fresh Prince.
In order get this crazy bit of technology working, all you have to do is connect to the PlayStation Network via Singstar and download the new update. Once completed, you can then freely swap the PlayStation 3 disc with a PlayStation 2 disc for the rest of your session as many times as you please. Finally, all the ABBA and Elton John I could ever ask for, all in one karaoke marathon.
