Sony released a detailed support page regarding backward compatibility of playing PlayStation 4 games on PlayStation 5. There are over 4,000 PlayStation 4 games, and the large majority of them will be playable on Sony’s next-generation console. However, there are a few PS4 games that will only be playable on that console. These include the following:
- DWVR
- Afro Samurai 2 Revenge of Kuma Volume One
- TT Isle of Man – Ride on the Edge 2
- Just Deal With It!
- Shadow Complex Remastered
- Robinson: The Journey
- We Sing
- Hitman Go: Definitive Edition
- Shadwen
- Joe’s Diner
Sony also noted that playing some PlayStation 4 games on PlayStation 5 may result in errors or unexpected behavior. Additionally, some PS4-unique functionalities present in some games may not be available on PS5.
PlayStation 4 utilized the “Share” functionality menu on the DualShock 4 controller, but it is unavailable on PlayStation 5 even while playing PS4 games. However, PS5’s Create button on the DualSense controller will allow players to take screenshots and videos. Other PS4 functionalities will not be supported on PS5 either, such as its tournaments and Second Screen app features.
This week had some other PS5 news, such as Sony’s video tearing down the PS5 and showing us its individual components and Bugsnax going gold in time to become a launch title. PlayStation 5 releases on Nov. 12.
