SNK Playmore Discontinues Neo-Geo Support

SNK Playmore has announced that as of August 31, 2007, they will no longer be offering maintenance and repair support for the Neo-Geo console.

Although it has been more than 10 years since the console went out of production, the company has kept up support for the system over the years, at least in part due to the small but die-hard core of fans that has grown up around it. The announcement includes all aspects of the system, including memory cards, the Neo-Geo CD, Neo-Geo CDZ, and the Neo-Geo Pocket. SNK Playmore has said that support is being discontinued due to the difficulty of finding replacement parts for such an old machine.

The company is offering Neo-Geo owners a final opportunity to have their units serviced via a form on its website, which unfortunately appears to be entirely in Japanese.

Fortunately for fans of the system, the Nintendo Wii Virtual Console is picking up Neo-Geo titles, and emulators are available for gamers who own Neo-Geo roms and discs.
