Fan-favorite Sonic the Hedgehog game Sonic Colors is getting a remaster called Sonic Colors: Ultimate. Sega announced the remaster during its celebratory Sonic Central presentation today, which laid out the company’s plans to honor the mascot’s 30th anniversary. Sonic Colors: Ultimate will launch on PC via the Epic Games Store, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One with a release date of Sept. 7, 2021. Sega says that we can expect more information in the coming months, but you can see Sonic Colors: Ultimate’s announcement trailer below.
Sonic Central featured a whole slew of announcements, including some of the new collaborations that will see the Blue Blur making special appearances in other games. In addition to the reveal of Sonic Colors: Ultimate, a companion animation, Sonic Colors: Rise of the Wisps, will premiere its first episode this summer. Sega gave us a short clip as a teaser during Sonic Central, which you can watch below at 6:15.
Sonic Colors first released on the Nintendo Wii and Nintendo DS in 2010 as a series entry more geared toward sci-fi. Besides the usual offerings found in your typical Sonic the Hedgehog game, Sonic Colors introduced colorful aliens called Wisps that allow players to use unique powers and abilities.
