Sonic Frontiers sped into Gamescom Opening Night Live 2022 to reveal a story trailer and a final release date of November 8, 2022 for PC, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X | S. Although that long-awaited release date is certainly the highlight, the trailer itself has plenty more to offer:
A mysterious stranger, a wondrous new land. In search of the missing Chaos Emeralds, Sonic becomes stranded on an island teeming with unusual creatures. Wield the power of the ancients as you battle hordes of powerful enemies on your path to uncovering the mysteries hidden across the Starfall Islands. Join Sonic and save the inhabitants from this colossal, mechanized threat!

Many fans have been hesitant to get their hopes up for this bold new direction for the Blue Blur, but you can’t deny that Sonic Frontiers might be the most intriguing entry yet. This Sonic adventure inspired by The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild has its own story and additions to the ever-expanding Sonic the Hedgehog cast, with Sonic now finding himself in a mysterious world with abandoned ruins, bizarre enemies, and new tools for him to utilize. Even the combat promises a new direction for Sonic, the quality of which remains to be seen.
